There loads of types for both calibers but I think the above are good reprisentatives.
Opinions please.

7.62 is the small penis compensator caliber, but I still like it because it makes me feel big. Plus I like anything that is loud and impractical and powerful.

a 7.62 mm penis is very very small in my opinion. especially 45mm long. you might as well have a 5.56 penis. At least thats a smaller target.

I think this thread is a bit pointless since they are designed for different things - otherwise the L96 would be chambered for 5.56 since it is smaller and lighter, as would many heavier rifles.

it aint pointless, its a big issue even in the armies. There is a lot of dispute. personally i prefere the 7.62. at the moment 5.56 is used more because it was thought to be enough power to stop targets and be light and balanced etc. but, apparent from experiences in vietnam and afganistan now, targets on dope or gone crazy take multiple shot to the chest before falling. the 7.62 is not used by NATO as much because it was thought to be impractical. This might have been the case when the 5.56 was introduced, but improvements in armour mean greater stopping power is required. This will keep improving with time so eventually the 5.56 will become unusable. At the moment the 5.56 is (i think) gen 3 ammunition but the 7.62 is still gen 1. This means that it has much more potential to improve. A good example is that the 5.56 is a tunbler while the 7.62 is not. If the 7.62 also becomes a tumbler it will do much more flesh damage compared to the 5.56. Also, battles are now fought at longer ranges because of a constant flow of better weapons (like the SCAR . The 5.56 is lighter compared to the 7.62, so the 7.62 has a potential to work at much longer ranges more accurately. well if you are bored over the weekend read this. its quite interesting. www.globalsecurity.org/military/library/report/1986/MVT.htm

5.56 because the weopon has less recoil such as the cadet GP has les recoil than a target rifle

the yanks use the M14 as a medium range sniper rifle. it uses the 7.62mm. 5.56 is better for assault rifles because it has less recoil. on the other hand it has less stopping power as mario said, which is an important factor in taking out a hostile. one more thing, dendy is right, they are intended for different purposes.
